Announcing Crypto Payments

Announcing Crypto Payments

Justin Hunter

We’re always working to give developers the flexibility and convenience they need. To stay in tune with their needs, we’re constantly gathering feedback from our customers and other builders utilizing IPFS. We’ve learned that some developers are increasingly interested in the option to pay for their Pinata plan upfront with crypto. While we’d love to support this, we know that many customers may still prefer to use credits cards, so with that, we’re thrilled to announce the beta release of crypto payment support. As this is beta, expect some bumps along the way as we refine and improve the experience.

The Need-To-Knows

Annual Plans

Should you choose to pay for your Pinata plan using crypto, you’ll see that there is no longer a monthly subscription option. All plans paid for via crypto will be an upfront, annual plan.

Plans paid for with credit card will still remain on a monthly subscription basis.

Handling Overages

Once you’ve selected to pay with crypto, you’ll pay for the base plan upfront via a quick and intuitive checkout flow. You’ll then handle overages separately on a monthly basis that will be billed to your account. In this initial version, overages will be paid via credit card still. So when you complete the crypto payment flow, you’ll need to add a credit card just in case you have any overages.

We’re excited to introduce this annual pay with crypto option - a beginning step towards maximum payment flexibility for our customers.
